Zega-Lockatong Preserve contains a beautiful old growth forest, where on the first Thursday of each month we work to mitigate the effects of the introduced tree pathogen beech leaf disease (BLD) for overall forest health. We target areas where the canopy is dying back from BLD, and remove invasive shrubs while protecting native saplings from herbivory. This is a great opportunity for learning about forest ecology and tree identification to help protect the future of New Jersey forests!
