BLD Action Team: First Meet-Up at Zega-Lockatong Preserve
Thursday, June 25 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Zega-Lockatong Preserve contains acres of old-growth forest, which includes many healthy beech trees. Beech Leaf Disease (BLD) is causing these trees to die back, creating light gaps on the forest floor. The BLD Action Team will work to help mitigate the effects of this disturbance by reducing invasive species encroachment and protecting native sapling recruitment from herbivory in these gap areas. There are many roles that can be taken on for the team: from keeping up with research, monitoring BLD effects, or mapping, to the hands-on invasive species removal and tree caging.
